This is series of Chinese Qipao and folkloric scenes from Republic of China by Liuhua Chikuang (柳花痴狂 / bakularamayana).

There are many responses on Instagram when I post pictures of Liuhua Chikuang’s qipao. The reason seems to be that she looks good in retro style typical of Republic of China period.

Short sleeves with flat shoulders and continuous sleeves. There is no large collar, and it is probably worn with a rear zipper.

It’s a very simple qipao.

However, there are some cute touches here and there.

The ruffled collar with ruffles on the neckline (but not folded). The ruffles are also on the sleeves and hem.

In the 1930s and 1940s, slits in the sleeves were one of the design features of qipao.
